Green Key Certificate

At Greenth Avenue we are committed to reducing the environmental and social impact of our activities.

The Green Key label represents an establishment’s commitment to its guests: by choosing to stay there, they contribute to a more sustainable future.

The high environmental standards expected of these establishments are maintained through rigorous documentation and frequent audits.

This initiative is the responsibility of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), based in Denmark, and is coordinated in PortugaI by the Associação Bandeira Azul de Ambiente e Educação (ABAAE) with the support of several national public and private entities.

Green Key aims to promote responsible hospitality by:

  • Encouraging sustainable operations and reducing resource consumption
  • Inspiring positive environmental practices among guests and staff
  • Supporting industry-wide sustainability standards
  • Contributing to long-term local environmental initiatives

Environmental Policy

At Greenth Avenue, we are committed to reducing the environmental and social impact of our activities. We believe it is possible to travel and create memorable experiences while remaining conscious of the impact our actions have on the planet.

Without compromising the quality of service for our guests, we are committed to implementing best practices daily, such as the efficient use of natural resources (water and energy), responsible waste management, the use and promotion of local and organic products, and raising awareness by encouraging our guests to adopt more sustainable behaviours to reduce their carbon footprint.

Our aim is also to promote environmental conservation and respect for local traditions and cultures. We strive to contribute every day to more responsible and conscious tourism that preserves resources for future generations. By choosing eco-friendly and sustainable accommodation, each of us takes a step forward in protecting our planet.

We thank all our guests who choose to stay with us during their visit to Faro and support us in pursuing these goals.

Our Goals

Provide guests with green spaces to enjoy, prioritizing the existence of endemic species;

Include the population and local businesspeople in raising awareness about the adoption of sustainable environmental practices;

Reduce water and energy consumption and CO2 release.

What We’ve Done So Far

Optimized water consumption with dual-flush toilets and aerators on all taps in communal and private areas, reducing the flow of water per minute without compromising comfort

Regular monitor on potential water leaks so that we can repair any leaks promptly

Paperless operations: check-in is done online, all tourist information (guides, maps, timetables) is available online on our website and only one copy is available in the common areas

Promotion of Ria Formosa Natural Park, raising awareness about responsible and conscious visits, using public transport and/or environmentally friendly transport

Provision of clearly identified recycling containers, with guidance on proper waste separation and appropriate treatment

Protection and promotion of local biodiversity, avoiding the use of pestices or chemicals to treat our green spaces

Installation of rainwater and greywater collection tanks, reused for garden irrigation and floor cleaning when needed

Collaboration with local associations, such as Apatris 21 in promoting skills development for professional integration

Other Measures

The garden areas are equipped with a drip irrigation system

All light bulbs in the rooms, living room and bathrooms are low consumption LED bulbs

The only television in the accommodation is located in the common room

All energy is 100% renewable, whether from us or from our supplier

All appliances are energy efficient

We do not use paper towels to dry hands in the bathrooms

The toilet paper in the bathrooms and the paper rolls in the kitchen have been awarded the Ecolabel and the FSC seal

We do not offer individual care products: Our shampoo and body care products are in dispensers

Carpets, tea towels and cleaning cloths are dried outside whenever possible

In our gardens we prefer native and/or endemic species to preserve local biodiversity

We have an organic vegetable garden with herbs and vegetables that guests can use

We work with a local company that helps us with the gardening, and we do not use pesticides

Old and/or badly damaged sheets and towels are reused as cleaning cloths

We have a compost garbage can for the disposal of organic waste

Our suppliers are local and/or regional companies

The exterior lighting of the accommodation (terrace and surrounding areas) is exclusively solar-powered and is activated by motion sensors

Sheets, blankets, towels and pillows that are damaged but still usable are donated to organizations and associations in need

The cleaning agents are supplied in large containers and dosed according to technical specifications to avoid disposable packaging

We only use rechargeable batteries in all remote controls and electronic locks for access to the house and rooms. The only service vehicle is electric and runs on 100% renewable energy

The paper used in the office is eco-labelled. Printouts are made double-sided when absolutely necessary and we continue to use the existing paper for notes. The printers are set to use as little toner as possible

Bed linen and towels are changed every three days and only at the request of the guests. We also offer our guests the option of waiving room cleaning during their stay if they so wish.

We have a cooperation protocol with a social institution (IPSS) that, together with the cleaning team, provides users with a space where they can train basic skills that will help them integrate into the world of work

We carry out preventive maintenance to regularly clean the appliances (air conditioning filters, exhaust fans, washing and drying machines) to prevent rapid wear and tear and promote their longevity

A high percentage of our cleaning and hygiene products (around 80%) are eco-label certified. We only use disinfectants in certain situations and follow the safety guidelines for each product.

We have installed light and motion sensors in the entrance hall, hallway and kitchen

The washing machines operate with short cycles and low temperatures (40º)

We offer our guests products from local businesses and/or entrepreneurs (wine, brandy, chocolate, nuts, etc.) at check-in and on special occasions
